2021 Inauguration

I did not realize how much I needed today. My soul needed today! Watching the inauguration and seeing the diversity, hearing Biden cheer for Harris after taking her oath with Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Biden’s speech, and the amazing poem by Amanda Gorman, it was all so beautiful and motivational. We have been through a lot as a country and have a lot of work in front of us, and today felt like a good start toward change. I was definitely not prepared for how emotional I got. 

 

 

I loved the pride that was on display. From Lady Gaga singing the national anthem to Garth Brooks’ rendition of Amazing Grace. It was very touching. The acknowledgment of the 400,000 lives that have been lost to COVID and the civil unrest; it was a realistic view of where we are and a hopeful and resolute view of where we are going. 

 

 

Amanda Gorman’s poem, The Hill We Climb, was perfection. There so many beautiful moments. I especially like her reference about being brave enough to see the light as well as to be it. I also like when she said:

“We’ve learned that quiet isn’t always peace
And the norms and notions
of what just is
Isn’t always just-ice.”

I am ready to see where we go from here as a country. I am prayerfully optimistic on day one of this new administration. 

 

 

I must close this post with the one, the only, Michelle Obama. She was the epitome of showing up and showing all the way out! I am a big fan of me. There are two songs that exemplify how I feel about myself, 1. Let’s Get It Started by MC Hammer and 2. Llegó El Sabor (The Flavor Arrived) by Oscar D’ León and José Alberto. In essence, I feel that nothing gets popped off until I get there and when I get there, the flavor arrives. 😉 Now, I can add Michelle Obama’s vibe from today. I loved it so much, I turned to Tik Tok. In my video, I shared that Michelle’s look is the equivalent of someone wearing white at someone’s wedding and then stealing the show. Because… Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama did not play with any of us. From now on, every space I enter will be like Michelle with my two songs playing in my mind.
